Apache on Solaris 10

Solaris 10 already have Apache in it, in order to use it you just need to start the service. The step to start the Apache server are :
1. Go to /usr/apache/bin : #cd /usr/apache/bin
2. To start the service : #./apachectl start
You will get error message if you don’t have httpd.conf located in /etc/apache/
To create htttpd.conf just copy httpd.conf-example located in /etc/apache/ :
#cp /etc/apache/httpd.conf-example /etc/apache/httpd.conf
After that try again run command #./apachectl start
If it success than in your solaris will show message ./apachectl start: httpd started
3.After that you can try your Apache server using your browser and type : http://yourIPserver/

Web for monitoring Server and DB in DataCenter

The idea(actually is developing existing web) for creating Web for monitoring Server and DB in DataCenter is came to me when one of my comrades introduce to me and my other work partners about web for monitoring resource in Data Center like server and database.
We need to have this web beacause we have a lot of server to monitored. And we can do it manually checking it one by one. And also inside those servers we have databases to managed.
Actually we already have application for monitoring performance of the server, but that application only show us response time not the detail of the server.
So in our Web for monitoring Server and DB in DataCenter will be given detail information to us about server and database performance like CPU usage, Memory usage, diskspace check , tablespace check and etc. And we hope our Web for monitoring Server and DB in DataCenter can give us notification wheter it via email or via sms (eg. server send sms when the diskspace is 80% used).
And i have an idea for further development this web will be act like an intelligence web who can not only give us information but also can fix the problem by itself.
So it’s not just only give us information about the condition of the server and database but also can take an action based on that information. It’s just like we plug our standard operation procedure(SOP) into that server and tell the server to do just like in SOP.

So the point for our Web for monitoring Server and DB in DataCenter will be like this :
1. Give real time usefull information about our server and database condition.
2. Server can take immediate action based on information processsed by server and the standard operating procedure we plug in to that server

The point look like simple (only 2 points), but i thought that i have to work on it more seriously so my data center will be full automate……(hopefully)

Always down in unexpected time

Why our servers  always down in unexpected time. It’s always down in late night , in holiday time, when there is no people around. Hate that. Why it always down when there is only a small usage on it or even it’s not used by someone. I still don’t have the clue……….

Kalimat diatas gw ambil dari sebuah blog .
Pas gw baca jadi merasa penting banget jadi bagian dari IT dan pentingnya IT menunjang kebutuhan untuk membantu manusia dalam menyelesaikan setiap tugas-tugas, pekerjaan, ataupun sekedar menggunakan internet untuk browsing dan chatting saja.

Sebenarnya sih kalimat diatas terkait dengan pemblokiran situs – situs seperti youtube,metacafe, multiply dan lain – lain. Tapi kalimat diatas scukup membuat gw sadar juga sih, betapa kecilnya gw sekarang di dunia IT(belum semua hal yang ditulis diatas gw mengerti). Masih banyak yang harus di explore, walaupun semuanya gak mungkin bisa gw kuasai dengan baik(biar gak ASBUN aja,mengutip dari sebuah blog: Di negri ini orang dikatakan pakar karena komentar – komentarnya sering dikutip, bukan karena pencapaiannya dan hasil penelitiannya di bidang yg dikuasainya). Tetap gw harus memilih untuk expert IT di bidang apa dan menjadi bagian tak terpisahkan dari perkembangan dunia IT di Indonesia.

The points on installing Oracle in non windows environment

The points on installing Oracle in non windows environment is (from my point of view) are :

1. Of course you must have the Installer source and check if the installer is compatible with your UNIX or LINUX version
2. Check the packages needed by the oracle Installer to successfully installed in your UNIX (check the pkginfo) and Linux (check it use rpm command)
3. Check your memory ( mostly oracle required 512 MB)
4. Check your diskspace, including your tmp diskspace and another partition for the oracle.
5. Create your Optimal Flexible Architecture (OFA), it’s the oracle file folder structure
6. Create DBA and OINSTALL group for installation
7. Set environment variable for oracle, including oracle_home,oracle_base, etc.
8. Create user oracle for installation.

The Blade09 is up

it so weird, i have known that blade09 is having trouble like that the day before. And the solution is quite simple just push the power button to restart (i’m making an assumption that blade09 is HANG) or ssh to blade an reboot it(this can’t be done because i can’t ping the server).

So at 16.30 when i was in the DC room and i saw Mr E (The ‘incumbent’ SysAdmin).I just ask him and he ask me “so, what should i do with this server ??” I told him all the reason. Then he said, “ok then i think we have to restart the server” and he push the power button in blade09(just like me and my partner do). After he push that button, the monitor is indicating that the blade09 is in process of rebooting.

How he did that, actually me and my friend are doing just like him. But it didn’t work (it’s so weird). I thought he got the experiences (i didn’t have that).

After blade09 is up and ready for installation, i’m installed it with Oracle 9.0.2(struggling with the RPM). I’ve success installed the software but the Database Configuration Assistant (DBCA) didn’t work. Sadly the day after when I am trying to troubleshoot the DBCA, the server  will be  installed with Fedora.

The point are, i’ve got new knowledge about Linux, Oracle Installation on it and the RPM package that is not support by RHEL AS4

Another point is, knowledge is not enough, we still need experience. And if we combine our knowledge with experience hopefully we can have the WISDOM (it’s the art of knowledge)

Problem with blade server

Setelah 2 hari menikmati libur weekend, hari senin ngantor lagi.  Jam 07.47 sampe di kantor (masih sepi baru 1 orang  yang datang). Niat dateng pagi2 mo nyiapin dokumen quick installation guide untuk instalasi oracle 9 di Red Hat Enterprise Linux Advanced Server 4 (baca : RHEL 4), sekaligus instalasi di server Blade09.

Jam 9 baru selesai nyiapin dokumen, n masuk lah gw keruang server yang dingin itu. Jari sudah bersiap untuk menari di terminal blade, koq gak muncul ya konsola RHEL 4 padahal lampu kuning di Blade09 udah nyala. Coba deh pindah ke Blade08 di monitor langsung tuh deh muncul console linux Blade08.  Setelah berpikir sejenak akhirnya gw memutuskan untuk merebootnya melalui ssh connection ke Blade09, ternyata ip addressnya gak bisa di ping. Akhirnya gw putuskan untuk merestartnya langsung dari Blade09 dengan menekan tombol restart yang ada di Blade09 tetep aja gak bisa, BT abizzz.

Coba nanya yang lebih expert di Blade lagi sibuk semua mengurus Oracle yang datafilenya corrupt. alhasil sampai gw selesai nulisa blog ini gw masih blom install tuh Oracle di blade09, padahal gw udah punya rencana sekalian belajar tuning database n belajar RAC di  Oracle  9.

P.S. : Hal yang sama juga gw alami di hari jumat waktu mo install Oracle 10G di solaris ternyata installernya gak mendukung untuk Solaris 10.5 gw hiks…..

G stands for GRID (akibat penasaran dengan 10G)

Mengambil analogi dari GRID Electricity, ketika kita membutuhkan listrik untuk membuat peralatan listrik kita bekerja, kita dengan mudah cukup menyambungkan alat listrik tersebut ke electric outlet (‘colokan listrik’ kata temen gw) tanpa perlu tahu proses listrik tersebut dapat membuat peralatan listrik kita berfungsi.

Gampangnya sih ketika sebuah IT Resource (Hardware or software) membutuhkan resource seperti Database, CPU or resource lainnya, IT resource ini dapat dengan mudah memperolehnya seperti halnya analogi listrik diatas. Yang intinya adalah pengguna GRID tidak perlu peduli dimana datanya berada atau komputer yang mana yang memproses request IT resourcenya, hanya perlu mengetahui resouce yang dimintanya tersedia dan dapat digunakan. Dan administrator dapat melihat resource – resource yang kecil ini sebagai sebuah entitas tunggal yang dapat dengan mudah di manage.

Agar setiap IT resource dapat berkomunikasi tentunya dibutuhkan standar, protokol dan interface yang harus dipatuhi agar IT Resource 2x dapat saling berkomunikasi. Itulah pentingnya SOA (Service Oriented Architecture) dalam pengembangan IT dewasa ini mengingat banyaknya IT Resource yang berbeda – beda dan dengan standar dan interface yang berbeda yang menyebabkan disuatu organisasi yang besar dengan jumlah IT resource yang sangat banyak menjadi sangat sulit untuk diintegrasikan. Dikarenakan masing2 IT resource yang banyak tersebut hanya dibuat spesifik untuk architecture tertentu, sehingga antar IT Resource akan sangat sulit untuk berkomunikasi.

Ide untuk menulis dari posting ini diawali dengan ketertarikan dari salah satu fitur yang ada di Oracle 10G, yaitu Real Application Cluster (RAC) dimana pada single physical database terdiri dari komposisi 2 atau lebih Oracle Instances dimana instance-instance tersebut dapat saling berkomunikasi dan bertukar data. Yang membuat saya lebih tertarik lagi adalah instance-instance yang banyak ini dapat dimanage layaknya memanage sebuah entitas database yang tunggal.

GRID in term of computer science defined as ” A computational GRID is a hradware and software infrastructure that provide dependable ,consistent,pervasive, and inexpensive access to high-end computational capabilities”. Itu definisi dari Fosster and Kessellman.

Jalan sehat @Komplek T Perilaku 6M Menuju 10 Paradigma Sehat

Hari minggu kemarin (30/3/2008) diadakan jalan sehat di lingkungan Telkom Group mengambil tempat di kantor DIVRE VI Acara ini bagian dari sosialiasi 10 Paradigma Sehat yang ditetapkan Telkom untuk membentuk paradigma hidup sehat di lingkungan TELKOM. Adapun 6M, yaitu Menjalankan ibadah dengan baik dan benar, melakukan olah raga dengan teratur dan terukur, menerapkan pola makan dengan bergizi dan sehat, menjaga lingkungan dengan bersih dan sehat, menghargai waktu dan menerapkan sikap yang positif.

Pada acara ini terlihat hadir 500 orang lebih mengikuti jalan santai. Acara diawalai dengan jalan santai di lingkungan komplek Telkom Divre VI, kemudian dilanjutkan dengan senam aerobic yang diikuti dengan penuh antusias oleh para peserta jalan santai (walaupun ada beberapa yang tidak antusias), Kemudian acara dilanjutkan dengan pembagian doorprize dan tips kesehatan dari Dokter.
